Teaching Tips
TPR (Total Physical Response)
Say the word + do the action. Your child copies the action before producing the word. "Salta!" = jump. You jump, they jump.
Forced Choice Questions
Don't ask open-ended questions. Give two options: "Quieres leche o agua?" (point to each). They pick, you celebrate.
The "Teach Me" Trick
Point at a poster and pretend you forgot: "What's that one?" Being the expert is deeply motivating for young learners.
Object Labelling
Use real objects. Hold the apple: "Manzana!" Let your child hold it while saying the word. Physical connection = memory.
Praise in Spanish
Muy bien! Excelente! Eso es! Que listo! Bravo! Layer Spanish praise into every session.
Red Flags
Normal - Don't Worry
Mixing languages, preferring English, forgetting words, silent periods (2-4 weeks), off days.
Back Off If
3+ days refusing, anxiety or crying about Spanish, negative associations, avoiding the session leader during immersion. Drop sessions for a week, keep songs only.
